Our theoretical approach is centered around the profound capacity and power movement has to offer. While movement is often solely thought of as the physical act of moving, it also refers to emotion, progression, change, revolution.

What is Creative Arts Therapy?
When most people hear “therapy,” they think sitting on the couch and talking. While this can be effective and a method we will use, we lace in methods of movement to maximize your therapeutic journey. Often the past is stuck within your body and just can’t get released. Here, we weave in therapeutic Arts like painting, drawing, dance, acting, music and so much more to maximize your time with us. Depending on your personal preferences and what you’re most comfortable, we will create a creative atmosphere that allows you to move through your past and onto a bright, vibrant future that awaits you.
Sometimes, the sitting and talking thing just doesn’t cut it. If you think you’ve tried “everything” or traditional therapy just didn’t cut it, we’re your people.

The Mind-Body Connection
Our philosophy is rooted in the mind body connection, which serves as a guide to help foster change and move people towards experiencing their most empowered self. While movement is often solely thought of as the physical act of motion, it also refers to emotion, progression, change, revolution. Hence our theoretical approach is centered around the profound capacity and power movement has to offer. Using an eclectic set of creative strategies, we provide our clients with a personalized approach to move them in the direction of their unique needs, desires, and dreams. We understand that a therapeutic journey is not the place for a one size fits all approach. From traditional talk therapy, expressive arts therapies and movement body-based psycho-somatic therapy, we help clients heal from inhibiting mental and emotional wounds.
Declare Your Voice - Your Story - Your Healing - Your Truth
Meet the Founder
I’m an NYC based therapist certified to take clients in NY and MA. I have one goal in mind: Your Success, Your Happiness, Your Joy. We ALL get stuck. Whether you’re working through childhood trauma or just a difficult life event, I believe you can move your mind into a better place, a place you WANT to be by moving your body.
I design a tailor made, therapeutic Creative Arts journey to guide you back to the version of yourself You want to be.
Let’s get moving!
“Sometimes, the sitting and talking thing just doesn’t cut it. The therapy I hope to serve you with is a mix of both. Once we establish your goals with therapy, I will design a “course”, if you will - a schedule of sessions to help you reach that goal using what I call “movement”. Often, my clients find that movement quite literally unlocks things hidden within our subconscious that may be blocking us. It is an active form of therapy. I’ll suggest methods that you are comfortable with and we will go at your pace.”

General
-
The therapy session is a time and space one sets aside to focus on self. To be with self. To heal. And to build one’s self. For many, that alone is a move towards progress. From there, in a safe non-judgmental space, you can process, reflect, and heal from troubling past events. Therapy can help you dive in to self exploration to gain deeper self understanding, assurance, and affirmation and live more aligned with your values and truths. You can learn to set boundaries, build health in your relationships, and navigate challenging ones. Therapy can provide a space where you can practice asserting yourself with more confidence, develop coping strategies for challenging feelings in a given moment, and to restore and heal your self to move through life with more ease.
-
Once you decide you would like to move forward with our therapy services, you will be sent some initial paperwork to fill out. This will be sent and completed through our secure, HIPAA compliant, user friendly online platform, Simple Practice. From there you will discuss and set an appointment with your therapist and have the option to have appointment reminder. Before each session you will be sent a link to meet at the scheduled time.
When engaging in Creative Arts and Movement, your therapist will help guide you in what materials might be helpful to have on hand and in setting up a space where you can move and be seen.
Because we are not meeting in a private office, it is important for you to carve out a private and quiet environment for your session.

Our goal is for you to get the most embodied benefit from therapy. A key element to successful therapy is consistency. For this reason, we strongly recommend a commitment to weekly session.
-
We require at least 24 hours notice for all canceled appointments. If we are notified with less than 24 hours notice or a no show happens you may be charged a full session fee. It is always best practice to let your therapist know as soon as possible.

Creative Arts Therapy
-
Creative Arts Therapy, also known as Expressive Arts Therapy, is an umbrella terms for mental health practices that use various art forms and the creative process to improve and enhance psychological, emotional, social, and even physical healing and well-being. The Creative and Expressive Arts Therapies include, but are not limited to, art, music and sound, dance/movement, and drama modalities. A creative arts process may also incorporate writing and poetry, symbolism and analogy, guided meditation, and imagery. These modalities and approaches can be used simultaneously for an inter-modal creative arts process or successively for an inter-modal transfer experience.
-
No, not at all. Not exclusively. While Creative Arts Therapy can be use and effect for children, it can be just as, if not even more, fruitful and beneficial for adults. In fact, just like some traditional talk therapists do, there are many creative arts therapists who work exclusively with adults.
-
Not at all. Just like the many types of traditional therapy, each one of the creative arts modalities has its own set of theoretical framework and perspectives, interventions, and methods of assessment. Many adult clients are surprised at how quickly and effectively the creative arts therapy can bring them closer to their emotions, their body, and their ability to gain new perspective.
-
Dance/movement therapists, music therapists, art therapist, and drama therapists are all masters level clinicians. They hold registrations and/or board certifications with their respective national associations. In some states, such as New York, these clinicians hold a Licensed Creative Art Therapy state license (LCAT). In other states, such as Massachusetts, creative arts clinicians hold traditional state licensures, such as Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
-
In many ways we are all uniquely complex systems of patterned circuitries, on conscious, sub-conscious, and unconscious levels. These patterns show up in our thoughts, feelings, movements, and behaviors. Verbal language is the form of expression that we have the most conscious awareness, control, and guard over and many of us prominent in our thoughts and feelings. A creative arts therapy process can help identify and break these patterns and provide a means to deep self exploration and new perspective development.
Insurance & Fees
-
We can! While we always encourage clients to practice direct communication with their insurance provider, we are here to help you understand your in network and out of network coverage for mental health services.
-
Out of network means your therapist is not directly covered by your insurance. When working with out-of-network benefits, the client pays for sessions upfront, is provided with what is called a “superbill” to submit to their insurance and is typically reimbursed by the insurance company after a deductible is met.
-
It is just the case that self-pay mental health services innately offers more privacy confidentiality as there is no sharing of information with insurance companies. Privately funded therapy means that your treatment is not dictated by insurance requirements or regulations. You can choose your therapist based on who is a good fit, the frequency and durations of your journey, and can engage in some highly specialized treatments that insurance can elect to not cover. It also allows treatment to have less emphasis on a diagnosis.
-
When working with insurance, whether it be in-network or out-of-network, it is required that a formal diagnosis be given during the first session in order for insurance to cover sessions and treatments plans and therapy goals are centered around the given diagnosis. Don’t get us wrong, mental health diagnostics can be an important part of treatment. A client who does not use insurance may still be given a diagnosis, but there is more room to focus more on unique symptomology, client specific life stressor, and tailored interventions and goals.
-
Our standard rate is $150 for a 45 minute appointment.
-
A sliding scale is a fee structure that allows some flexibility for private paying clients. It can be helpful for those who choose not to use insurance or for those who do not have health insurance. To uphold ethical standards and to strive towards social equity we offer a sliding scale that is income and dependent based. For more information on our sliding scale please contact us.
-
No, not at all! Being able to use insurance is great option. It means access to care which is why we are in-network with several insurances. Insurance is complex and can lead to misinformation and a lack of understanding. We value transparency, education, and honesty and want our clients to have all the information they need to make an informed decision.
